Mountain Computer Systems
Q. What, exactly, is EyeBase?
A. EyeBase is a full-featured office management system with built-in comprehensive electronic medical records. EyeBase software is designed specifically to help manage the daily business activities of the busy optometrist. It is also designed to take the examination process and make it completely paperless.
Q. What makes EyeBase different from other systems?
A. The biggest and most important difference is the fact that most other systems were designed and written by computer programmers with little to no knowledge of how optometrists work. EyeBase was written and designed by Dr. Anthony S. Diecidue, an optometrist. With his unique insight into the daily activities of a real optometrist’s office, he was able to design a program uniquely suited to the practice of optometry. All the while, he kept in mind the fact that every staff member will be using this program, so it has to be easy to use, simple to implement and powerful enough to handle the tasks necessary to run your office.
Q. I haven’t heard of EyeBase before today, is it a new program?
A. No, EyeBase has been around for 20 years! It is a solid program that has been in optometrists offices, being constantly improved since 1988. We were one of the first programs to go to the Windows platform back around 1995. To keep our costs down, we spent much of our time and effort in building the best software package out there and marketing was done by word-of-mouth.
Q. Do I need to have any other software installed on my computer to run EyeBase?
A. Absolutely not! EyeBase uses a Microsoft Access database, but is completely autonomous. You do not need any other software to run EyeBase. By using a MS Access database, you, the end user are spared the cost of licensing your database which is what most other systems don’t tell you.
Q. What operating systems does EyeBase run on?
A. EyeBase is a Windows program and will run on Windows XPor higher.
Q. Can I run EyeBase on more than one computer?
A. EyeBase can be installed on as many computers as you have on your network at a single location. There is no “per-user” or “per-seat” fee for EyeBase and only a limit of 256 computers. A separate license must be purchased for multiple locations.
Q. Can I run EyeBase on my current computer(s) or do I have to buy new ones?
A. The minimum hardware requirements are listed here: http://visioncare.net/mountaincomputer/mhr.html . If your computer meets these requirements then you can install EyeBase.
Q. What other requirements does EyeBase need?
A. Every computer that EyeBase is installed on needs broadband Internet access and will not run on a system that cannot provide that. At least a 15” LCD monitor is required for proper viewing of EyeBase windows. Larger monitors are suggested to fit more information on the screen at one time.
Q. Do I need a dedicated server to run EyeBase on my network?
A. No. Our rule of thumb regarding servers is if you have more than 3 computers in your office, you should probably have a server. If you have 3 or less computers, you can designate one of your desktop computers as the “server” and the other computers will connect to it for EyeBase’s data.
Q. Is it hard to install EyeBase?
A. Not at all! The EyeBase CD is self-installing. And if you don't feel comfortable installing EyeBase, we'll do it for you! After that, EyeBase automatically checks for updates and prompts you through the update process.
Q. How often are updates available for EyeBase?
A. Major version updates come out about once every year or two. Enhancements, bug fixes and minor improvements come out periodically as needed. We are constantly improving EyeBase and one way we make improvements is by listening to our users. If you have a suggestion or feature request, we take that seriously and try to incorporate those into the next version.
Q. What are the benefits of leasing?
A. Leasing EyeBase provides for a low-cost alternative way to use the program. A low registration fee and low monthly payments will keep EyeBase smoothly running your office. All upgrades and support are included in the monthly lease fee.
Q. What type of support do you offer?
A. We offer many avenues to support. We have a free email list available for our users to discuss EyeBase issues. In addition we have these other ways of getting help for EyeBase users:
800 number support line for urgent issues
Email support for non-urgent issues
Remote control support
Online Tutorials
Online manual
Personal remote training (additional fees apply)
Personal in-office training (additional fees apply)
Q. Can you provide a complete “turn-key” solution for my office?
A. Yes. We are a Dell reseller and recommend Dell computers to all of our clients. If you desire we can completely tailor a system for you with desktops, notebooks and servers, all configured and ready to go if you like.
Q. What plans does Mountain Computer Systems have for the future of EyeBase?
A. Big ones! Soon we plan to introduce a totally new, redesigned EyeBase currently called EyeBasePRO. It will be available in both a local and online version. This is a first in the eye care industry; having two programs to choose from. This new system will target larger offices with greater demands on the software. It will have many of the same features as the current version of EyeBase, but will have some new ones and incorporate features seen in large, corporate databases. We will continually be improving the current version of EyeBase for our small to medium sized offices and new versions of it will be introduced as features are added.
